Look at our new arrival…
City of Norwich Aviation Museum is pleased to announce the arrival of a major new airframe to our collection – Westland Wessex HAS.1 (XM300) arrived at the museum on Thursday 7 th May after being transferred from Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales, where the airframe had been in storage for 24 years.
XM300 is the fifth Wessex ever built and the oldest existing example of the first iteration of this workhorse helicopter. This has been in the planning for over a year now and after a false start we were able to secure the airframe via tender at the end of 2025.
Special thanks to everyone involved in the planning and execution of the move, both people inside and outside of CNAM.
William Sims, Jon James and the team at Museums Wales Collections Centre for their patience and accommodation of our visits over the last 7 months.

Jess Porter, Bryan Grove and Phil Winterton from the Helicopter Museum, Weston Super Mare for their kindness and assistance in obtaining a much needed item to allow us to complete the move. Visit them here.
Kev Graham for his generosity of time and depth of knowledge that guided us throughout the planning of the move.
Richard Coleman of CCG Commercial Ltd for their great professional loading, transport and unloading of XM300 into our care. Visit them here.
XM300 will now undergo a period of conservation to make her weather proof and secure before we undertake restoration to a more displayable item. If you wish to be involved in this project please come down to the museum and ask about volunteering at CNAM.
